The Midway Project-A New Milestone for CarbonBlue

Project midway

On May 25, CarbonBlue deployed the Midway project-marking the first time a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology has been synergistically integrated with a desalination plant, operating continuously within an industrial facility.

Midway demonstrates CarbonBlue’s ability to be seamlessly incorporated into industrial processes-in this case, Ma’agan Michael’s desalination operations-providing industrial co-benefits to the plant alongside climate benefits in the form of pure, water-based CO2 removal.

By removing CO2 from the plant’s inlet water stream, Midway is expected to boost the plant’s recovery ratio, improve overall performance, and lower operational costs, while simultaneously unlocking the water’s ability to absorb CO2 directly from the atmosphere.

Named “Midway” because of its pioneering nature and relatively small scale when placed in the context of CarbonBlue’s ambitious vision, the project proves the technological and conceptual potential of harnessing industry for environmental goals. It provides industrial facilities with meaningful co-benefits while contributing to climate restoration.

An essential step in scaling CarbonBlue’s operations, Midway clears the path to larger-scale CDR deployments and future industrial integrations.
