CarbonBlue’s story begins over 8,000 years ago, with the first human production of lime. Since then, over the last eight millennia, the method for producing lime has remained the same: burning limestone at high temperatures to break the chemical bond between calcium (lime) and carbon dioxide, releasing the CO₂ and keeping the calcium.
As human industry and impact on the environment have grown, countless new innovations and improved methodologies in nearly every field have arisen – but lime production has remained essentially the same.
Founded in 2022 by Dr. Dan Deviri and Iddo Tsur, CarbonBlue set out to open a new chapter in the history of this essential material. Following the realization that in order to secure a sustainable future, industries and economies must inherently support the environment and the ecosystems upon which it depends. The two set out to develop technology which would support industries in their growth, while allowing them to transform their operations’ carbon footprint from carbon-positive to a carbon-neutral one – or even carbon-negative.
The company’s scientific breakthrough, which enables the production of lime in ambient temperatures and without fossil fuels, holds the potential to bring about that transformative vision. Since its founding, Deviri and Tsur have been joined by a growing team of engineers, scientists, business developers and creatives, all sharing the same vision: improving industries and value chains while bolstering sustainability, circularity and efficiency.
We are a team of scientists and engineers with a rich combined background in groundbreaking research, industry innovation and large-scale project execution. What binds us is our love for the planet and our conviction that there is always a fighting chance for a better future.
