Project Midway
•Improved recovery ratio
•Production of high-quality calcium carbonate
Deployed in May 2025, the Midway project is the first time a CDR technology is synergistically integrated with a desalination plant, operating continuously within an industrial facility.
Midway demonstrates CarbonBlue’s ability to be seamlessly incorporated into industrial processes – in this case, Ma’agan Michael’s desalination operations – providing industrial co-benefits to the plant alongside climate benefits in the form of water-based carbon dioxide removal.
climate pressures
With increasing water scarcity brought on by climate change, the desalination industry faces pressure to both enhance economics and operational efficiency, and to reduce its adverse environmental impact.
The removal of dissolved CO2 from the inlet water feed of desalination facilities can address both issues, and allow the desalination industry to meet its expanding demand while simultaneously turning it into a powerful sink for the world’s primary greenhouse gas.
Midway shows our vision can become a reality; humanity's massive industry can become carbon negative
By removing CO2 from the plant’s inlet water stream, Midway is expected to boost the plant’s recovery ratio, to improve overall performance and lower operational costs, while simultaneously unlocking the water’s ability to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
By providing an industrial facility with meaningful co-benefits and climate impact, Midway is an essential step in scaling CarbonBlue’s operations, clearing the path to larger-scale CDR operations and future industrial integrations.
